Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) 


 
As a PRN Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), you will be providing remote, telehealth-based speech-language therapy services to our clients. This role allows you to work flexibly from home, delivering high-quality therapy through secure video conferencing platforms. You will be an integral part of our team, helping patients reach their full potential while maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations. 

As a 1099 independent contractor, your hours and caseload will fluctuate based on patient needs, with flexibility to adjust your schedule as required. 


Key Responsibilities:
 

  • Provide Telehealth Therapy: Conduct remote speech-language therapy sessions via HIPAA-compliant video platforms, ensuring patients receive effective care. 
  • Assessment and Treatment Planning: Perform thorough speech and language assessments, create personalized treatment plans, and track patient progress. 
  • Documentation: Complete and maintain accurate patient records using our HIPAA-compliant EMR system. Ensure all documentation is submitted by midnight on the same day as the session. 
  • Patient Communication: Communicate clearly and professionally with patients and their families regarding treatment plans, progress, and any necessary adjustments. 
  • Manage Cancellations and No-Shows: In the event of a last-minute cancellation or no-show, ensure the no-show fee is collected and added to the patient’s insurance balance. 
  • Collaborative Care: Work collaboratively with other members of the patient’s treatment team when applicable (healthcare professionals, case managers, attorneys, etc) to ensure comprehensive patient care.

Required Qualifications:
 

  • Education: Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program. 
  • Licensure: Active state licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist in Michigan. 
  • Experience: Experience in providing speech-language therapy services, ideally with telehealth or remote experience. 
  • Skills
  • In-depth knowledge of speech and language disorders and evidence-based therapy techniques. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and manage your time effectively in a remote environment. 
  • Proficiency with telehealth platforms and EMR software. 
  • Knowledge of HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality protocols. 
 

Work Environment & Equipment:
 

  • Location: This is a remote position, requiring a quiet, private space for telehealth sessions. 
  • Equipment: As an independent contractor, you are responsible for maintaining your own laptop, internet connection, and any necessary therapy materials (e.g., assessments, therapy tools). These items may be eligible for tax deductions, so we recommend consulting with a tax professional. 
 

Schedule Availability:
 

  • This is a PRN (as-needed) position, so your hours will vary depending on patient scheduling. It is your responsibility to monitor the accuracy of your treatment schedule and be aware of any scheduling additions, cancelations, and/or changes. You will have flexibility in adjusting your availability to accommodate your caseload; however, you must first seek approval from your supervisor when making any changes to your availability or requesting time off. Please notify your supervisor in advance if you need to modify your schedule. 
 
 
Professionalism/Oversee Patient Care 
 
  • Consistently exhibit professionalism in all interactions with patients, families, and team members, ensuring a positive and respectful environment 
  • Treat patients of all ages, races, creeds, genders, cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds, and disabilities without bias or prejudice. 
  • Respect and uphold the patient's right to treatment and their involvement in treatment decisions. 
  • Practice ethical responsibility by considering cultural, ethnic, and religious beliefs of the patients served, in accordance with applicable laws. 
  • Excel in customer service, maintaining a positive and professional attitude when interacting with patients, families, and team members. 
  • Use technology efficiently and accurately, including all office software required to complete job duties, and assist in training others on these technologies as needed. 
  • Complete all required HIPAA Privacy and Security training and ensure compliance with these policies in all patient interactions and documentation. 
  • Reach out to patients for conflict resolution when needed and inform supervisor of any patient issues to attempt conflict resolution when necessary. 
 

Documentation:
 

  • Complete evaluations that assess the patient's speech and language skills, identify areas of concern, and establish treatment goals. 
  • Document SOAP notes for each therapy session, including: 
  • Subjective feedback from the patient or caregiver 
  • Objective data (assessments, test results, observable behaviors) 
  • Assessment of the patient’s progress 
  • Plan for continued therapy 
  • Complete progress notes to reflect the patient’s ongoing development and response to treatment, adjusting goals and methods as necessary. 
  • Complete discharge notes when a patient has met their goals, is no longer in need of therapy, or discontinues services. 
  • Ensure all documentation is submitted in a timely manner using the HIPAA-compliant EMR system, and completed by midnight on the same day as the session to ensure accurate record-keeping and continuity of care. 
 

Maintain Continuity of Care:
 

  • Each evaluation and progress note must include a Plan of Care (POC) 
  • Send the Plan of Care (POC) to the patient's referring physician for signature, utilizing the fax functionality within our EMR system.  
 
 
Maintains Continuing Education and Provides Evidence-Based Treatments 
 
  • Seeks out learning opportunities, stays relevant with current evident in treatment approaches, and exercises the most evidence-based interventions
